The Mississippi Arts Commission Announces 2023 Governor’s Arts Awards Recipients

The Mississippi Arts Commission is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Governor’s Arts Awards. Now in its 35th year, Governor’s Arts Awards are given to individuals and organizations to recognize outstanding work in the artistic disciplines, arts-based community development, and/or arts patronage in Mississippi. The awards, which underscore the important relationship between government and the arts, will be presented in partnership with the Office of Governor Tate Reeves.

MAC Announces Recipients for the Building Fund for the Arts Grant

The Mississippi Arts Commission is pleased to announce the recipients of the Building Fund for the Arts (BFA) grant. This funding opportunity supports the much-needed repair, renovation, expansion, or construction of Mississippi facilities that serve as sites for year-round arts programming in their communities. The Mississippi Legislature approved $3 million for the BFA program for FY2023. 

Message From The Director | September 2022

Earlier this week, I announced that I would be stepping down from my position as executive director of MAC. I’ve accepted a position as the Director of Development for the Blanton Museum at The University of Texas at Austin. Larry Morrisey will be taking on the role of interim executive director until the role is filled. The board has already started the search for the next Executive Director. 

Mississippi Folklife Releases Special Issue “Craft & Community During COVID” for Summer 2022

The Summer 2022 Issue, “Craft and Community During COVID” of Mississippi Folklife is now available online at www.mississippifolklife.org. This digital journal features original writing, photography, films, and documentary work focused on present-day folklife and cultural heritage throughout the state. Mississippi Folklife is a project of the Mississippi Arts Commission.
