Blue Monday

Grantees like the Central Mississippi Blues Society are making impacts within their communities thanks to MAC’s support! The Central Mississippi Blues Society hosts Blue Monday every Monday (excluding holidays) from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. at Hal & Mal’s in Jackson. Blue Monday is a weekly blues event that features blues and R&B artists from Mississippi, the regional area, and internationally. The event draws blues enthusiasts from all over the world!

The MAX – Mississippi Art + Entertainment Experience

MAC grantees like Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX) in Meridian, Mississippi, showcase the creative talent in our state! The MAX is a museum and cultural center showcasing Mississippi’s global arts and entertainment legacy. The museum received an Organization Operating Grant from MAC. Organizations in Mississippi that provide arts programming regularly can receive this grant to help offset operating costs. Support for the Organization Operating Grant is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mississippi Legislature.

Jackson Comics

MAC grantees like Jackson Comics are creating art focused on Mississippi! Jackson Comics, created by Blake Barnes, is an anthology comic book series featuring artists from Mississippi and stories about Mississippi. Barnes received an Individual Project grant from MAC to support the anthology’s creation. Individual Project Grants are available to Mississippi artists seeking funding for community-based projects. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Mississippi Legislature provide support for the Individual Project Grant.

Dr. Hsiaopei Lee

Dr. Hsiaopei Lee is a violist and professor of music at the University of Southern Mississippi. She received three Fellowship grants from MAC in FY2012, FY2018, and FY2024. Fellowships are awarded to Mississippi artists performing excellent work in their field. Mississippi artists can receive up to $5,000 to support their artistic development in any way they choose. Dr. Lee used her Fellowships to create, produce, and release CDs that showcase her talent. Since her first CD, she has performed and toured, most recently at Carnegie Hall. The Fellowship is funded through support from the Mississippi Legislature.

Starkville Community Theatre

MAC grantees like the Starkville Community Theatre are updating their spaces to better serve their communities through the Building Fund for the Arts grant!

Starkville Community Theatre received $40,000 through the Building Fund for the Arts grant to renovate the Starkville Playhouse auditorium. They fixed deteriorating plaster and scaffolding and updated their lighting to energy-efficient lighting. The grant is available to arts-based facilities that offer arts programming throughout the year. The Mississippi Legislature funds the Building Fund for the Arts grant.
