Julia Reed was a journalist, speaker, and activist from Greenville, MS. Reed wrote, sometimes irreverently, about politics, fashion, food, and human predicaments. Her articles and stories appeared in the New York Times, Garden & Gun, Vogue, and many others. She published eight books, among them Queen of the Turtle Derby. True to her Greenville roots, she kept a home there, revitalized the Delta Hot Tamale Festival, and opened a bookstore. She died in 2020 at age fifty-nine after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
