Meet Bay St. Louis potter Steve Barney, whose lifelong passion for clay and engineering expertise has culminated in a regionally acclaimed artistic career.
Hailing from Buffalo, NY, Steve’s journey on the pottery wheel began in his childhood, when he first honed his skills on the pottery wheel and began deconstructing the science and engineering of pottery making.
Steve received a BS in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science from Tufts University in 1986. He has more than 30 years of experience in eLearning development, video production, museum exhibit design, and instructional design. Inspired by the legendary George Ohr, the “Potter of Biloxi,” Steve shares his love for pottery, science, and engineering by conducting captivating demonstrations and educational sessions at schools, museums, and festivals throughout the region. As the founder of the STEAMpunk Pottery Project, he blends art with STEM principles (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), igniting creativity and curiosity among aspiring artists and innovators.
