The Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble was formed in 2003. The group is composed of enthusiastic proponents of the historically informed presentation of music created before 1750, played on recreations of original instruments, including recorders, violas da gamba, vielles, psaltery, organ, and harpsichord. The ensemble has performed regularly in Oxford, MS, at the Paris-Yates Chapel on the campus of the University of Mississippi. In addition, the group has performed at Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis, TN, in Meridian, MS, and a noontime concert series at an annual early music festival in Huntsville, AL. The group has conducted instructional programs for the University of Mississippi music history and music appreciation classes and has also given a lecture demonstration at Oxford High School.
