The Mississippi Shakespeare Festival exists to provide professional arts experiences that focus on the classics of world literature, with a special emphasis on the works of Shakespeare. Our mission is to preserve history while developing and nurturing a new generation of classics across the literary and performing arts. MSF serves schools across the state with touring educational productions of Shakespeare’s classics. Shows are presented on a rotating basis. The 2024 touring production is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. These performances are designed to bring the classic texts to life in a way that students fall in love with language and literature. After the show we have a time of Q & A and interaction with the students. Workshops with groups of students or teachers teach participants how to read, act, direct, and discuss Shakespeare’s works. Options include Reading Shakespeare, Directing Shakespeare, Acting Shakespeare, and our favorite, “Who is afraid of the Big, Bad Bard?”. Led by Artistic Director Amile Wilson, these sessions bring classical theatre into reach and explore The Bard’s lasting appeal and impact.
