Fletcher Cox is a designer/craftsman who works mostly in wood- sculpture, contemporary furniture, and architectural specialties- although he makes smaller objects and occasional pieces, as well as designs other materials. He has also taught in several architecture programs, most extensively at Mississippi State University. Over the course of fifty years, he has executed numerous private and public commissions. His work is in many museum permanent collections and has been featured in national and international exhibitions and publications. He received the first artist’s fellowship awarded by the Mississippi Arts Commission, and in 2006, he received the Governor’s Award for Artistic Achievement. His more recent large projects are courtroom doors for the new federal courthouse in Jackson, designing and contracting the “Noodle” proscenium arch in the Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art, and a de- and re-constructed mature burr oak tree in Naperville, IL.
