Cass Simmons (she/they) describes her current position in the dance realm as a movement artist, dance educator, and kinesthetic researcher. In 2018, she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance (e. Performance and Choreography) at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Directly following her BFA, Cass acquired her MFA in Dance from Hollins University in Virginia. Since then, she has studied and performed across the United States and Europe. In 2022, Cass received her AAA Teaching Licensure certification to teach Dance in K-12 schools and joined the dance department’s faculty at Ida B. Wells APAC, an arts-emphasis magnet school in Jackson, MS. Previously, Cass taught dance as faculty and guest artist at the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi School of the Arts, and many dance spaces in the state. Along with the joy of movement, Cass finds great importance to emphasize inclusivity and risk-taking in the dance space, as well as acknowledge the mental fortitude and emotional facets required of such a physical, ephemeral artform. She is an alumnus of Mississippi School of the Arts and originally from Hattiesburg, MS.
Cass is available to teach or choreograph in classical or contemporary dance forms for many age ranges and all skill levels including but not limited to ballet, modern, contemporary, musical theatre, jazz, tap, improvisation, and mindful movement practices. She is also available for teacher workshops that integrate dance into core academic lessons.
