As an experienced teaching artist, Althea Jerome offers demonstration lessons and residencies in schools and leads professional development for teachers. She emphasizes arts integration by bringing music and other arts disciplines into language arts, social studies and science classes. In addition, she offers music and arts experiences at community venues and special events as a means to expose young people to the joy of making music. She was first listed in the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Teaching Artist Roster in 2001. In 2012, Jerome received a Governor’s Arts Award for her work in Arts Education. With work experience in K-12 public schools, university, community arts organizations and statewide arts and education organizations, she has continuously pursued the importance and value of arts learning.
