Mississippi Folklife Community Scholars Program

MAC’s Folk & Traditional Arts Program is seeking participants in our first Community Scholars Program conducted in partnership with Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts and the University of Arkansas. The training program consists of 5 biweekly evening sessions with short homework assignments. All sessions will take place online and are free to attendees.

Community Scholars Online Session Dates:

  • September 10
  • September 24
  • October 8
  • October 29
  • November 12

What do Community Scholars learn?

Participants are introduced to documentation techniques, ethics of working with communities, research and archiving methods, presentation of culture, grant writing, and project development.

Key participants for this program include:

  • Anyone with an interest in community work
  • Anyone with an interest in documenting traditional arts practices and community life
  • Individuals with an interest in and/or working with culture, heritage, and traditional arts
  • Members of cultural organizations (museums, arts councils, festivals, places of worship, community centers, etc)
  • Educators, librarians, archivists, oral historians
  • Artists, musicians, performers, storytellers, craftspeople
