“The Mississippi Arts Commission is delighted to announce the FY2016 grant recipients,” stated Dr. Tom Pearson, Executive Director of MAC. “We are thankful to the Mississippi Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts for their support of this agency and our work to assist artists, schools, and arts organizations across this state. This is a true testament to the continued partnership between MAC, the Mississippi Legislature, Governor Phil Bryant, our partners at the National Endowment for the Arts, and generous arts supporters from across Mississippi.”
The applications from the grantees were reviewed by a group of panelists with artistic, managerial and educational expertise. MAC’s Board of Commissioners reviewed the panelists’ recommendations before making final funding decisions.
The Commission approved 36 artists or groups to its Artist Roster and Teaching Artist Roster. The online resource and printed version include many of the best artists and arts demonstrators working in the state. Non-profit organizations or schools can utilize MAC’s Minigrant program to support a performance or workshop by a Roster Artist. The next deadline for the Minigrant applications will be November 2, 2015.
In addition to direct grants, MAC has accepted 33 schools into its Whole Schools Initiative program. This program provides educators with intensive professional development in integrating the arts across the curriculum.
