The Mississippi Arts Commission represents the interests of artists in many disciplines. The following opportunities are available for individual artists:

Artist Fellowship

The Artist Fellowship Program provides grants of up to $5,000 to Mississippi artists of many different artistic disciplines who demonstrate the ability to create exemplary work in their chosen field. Fellowships are awards of artist merit and are highly competitive.

Individual Project Grants

Project Grants for individuals provide funding to support community-oriented ideas and projects organized by artists in Mississippi. These grants of up to $2,000 each are given to individuals to support innovation, to propel artists’ careers, and to encourage collaboration between artists and communities.

Folk Arts Apprenticeship

The Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program helps to ensure the survival of community-based traditional art forms found throughout the state. The Commission provides up to $2,000 to master traditional artists to work one-on-one with an apprentice to teach specific aspects of their tradition. The master artist and apprentice apply to the program together.

Artist Mini-Grants

The Artist Mini-Grant program provides grants of up to $500 to support the professional development of individual artists by helping fund registration for appropriate conferences and workshops, promotional efforts, or expendable artistic supplies.

Mississippi Artist Roster

The Mississippi Artist Roster is a listing of artists and arts education professionals who are available for performances, workshops, residencies and other programs in communities throughout the state. Grant funds are available to organizations for presenting Roster Artists (see Mini-Grants for Organizations). Individual artists may apply to be included in the Roster for a three-year term.

Teaching Artist Roster

The Teaching Artist Roster is a listing of professional artists and arts specialists who are available to work with educators and administrators in developing strategies for using the arts in K-12 classrooms. Grant funds are available to schools and organizations for presenting these individuals (see Mini-Grants for Organizations). Like the Artist Roster, individuals may apply to be included in the Teaching Artist Roster for a three-year term.
