Steve Barney is a potter, educator, and founder of the STEAMpunk Pottery Project. Inspired by George Ohr, the “Mad Potter of Biloxi,” Barney brings more than 30 years of creative experience intersecting his passion for clay with eLearning development, video production, museum exhibit design, and instructional design for learners of all ages. Recent projects include the 2026 Saturn V S-IC Rocket public art sculpture with the Infinity Science Center (Pearlington, MS), two Bay St. Louis, MS group exhibitions at Gallery 220 and Clay Creations, a Southern Rail commission for Amtrak Mardi Gras Service’s Inaugural Run, and a commission from the Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Council. Barney is the 2019 recipient of Mississippi State University’s Excellence in Community Engagement Award for “Getting to Know Magnolia Bayou through Sciences, Arts, and Culture.”
