MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR | MAY 2022

As we head into the summer months, I would like to take this opportunity to give a warm thank you to our keynote speaker, presenters, panelists, legislators, and all who attended our recent State Arts Conference. It was a pleasure to reconnect in person and meet several first-time attendees. The event was a success, and we are pleased with all the positive feedback received. I am so inspired and energized by the dedicated artists and arts supporters from all over the state of Mississippi. If you missed this year’s conference, check out the recorded session, “The BIPOC Artist Movement,” presented by the Greater Jackson Arts Council (GJAC). Looking forward to seeing you next year!

And speaking of conference, don’t miss our Mississippi Whole Schools Summer Institute in July. This event will be held on July 12-14 at the Thad Cochran Center on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The keynote speakers will be Steve Bollar of Stand Tall Leadership and Monique Davis of the Center for Art and Public Exchange (CAPE). Learn more about the conference and register HERE.

I’m very pleased to announce that nominations for the 2023 Governor’s Arts Awards will open on June 1. If you know a deserving artist who has made a significant contribution to the arts in the state, submit your nomination HERE. The deadline to apply for Mini-grants is on June 1. If you haven’t completed your application yet, it’s not too late!

We are grateful to our national and regional arts organizations and legislators that help make our efforts possible.

Looking ahead, don’t miss these exciting events taking place across the state this summer, like Pepsi Pops this Saturday, Festival South in June, and the Mississippi Book Festival in August. We wish you all an incredible, inspired art-filled summer.

My very best,

Sarah Story
